My driving lessons are about to finish, and yet, after so many weeks of motor training, the Kolkata traffic freaks me out completely. Driving in the stretch of Garia main road and the NSC Bose road actually colours me white. The reckless autos, cabs and private vehicles all appear to snarl forward with a try-to-overtake-and-I’ll-show-you-the-heavens sort of intimidating expression!! The buses will never let you go past them no matter how hard you honk and inching close to the errant mad autos results in a scratch or two on the body of the darling unassuming car you’re driving. I know it’s a public road and everyone has equal right to show their supremacy over it, but then a bit of caution and patience on their parts would have helped newbies on the roads like me. EM Bypass is still a bit disciplined but then the traffic there divulges their evil teeth by night. Just the other day a bunch of youngsters were smashed to death by an apparently drunk driver behind the wheels of a truck.
Well, then again, accidents do happen and even the best of drivers can falter. I need to get in terms with the city traffic. I need to break this jinx of my mine soon.
Also, I need to oil my hair that looks like shards of black straw on my head now. :-/
